B-Team Jiu Jitsu (Austin): Founders and Style

Founded 2021 by Craig Jones, Nick Rodriguez, Ethan Crelinsten

About B-Team Jiu Jitsu

B-Team formed in 2021 after Craig Jones, Nicky Rodriguez, Ethan Crelinsten and others separated from John Danaher's Renzo Gracie squad. The team set up in Austin, Texas alongside several other elite-level academies that had clustered there.

The team has been visible in submission grappling — particularly EBI, Who's Number One (WNO), and ADCC — and is known for the Craig Jones-led leg lock system. The B-Team brand also leans heavily into a casual, irreverent public persona, with strong social media presence and content output.

B-Team trains both gi and no-gi but is best known for no-gi submission grappling and competition prep. The academy hosts regular open mats and is one of several elite grappling rooms that have made Austin a destination for serious training.

Style & Philosophy

No-gi-leaning submission grappling with a heavy emphasis on leg locks, modern guard passing, and competition prep for EBI / WNO / ADCC.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is B-Team Jiu Jitsu located? +

B-Team Jiu Jitsu is in Austin, Texas. The academy is at 13343 Pond Springs Rd, Suite 200A, in the northwest Austin area. It's one of several elite grappling academies in Austin (alongside New Wave, 10th Planet Austin, etc.).

Why did B-Team form? +

B-Team was formed in 2021 after Craig Jones, Nicky Rodriguez, Ethan Crelinsten, and several other competitors separated from John Danaher's Renzo Gracie no-gi squad. The split was widely publicized but the new team has continued to perform at the highest levels of submission grappling competition.

Is B-Team only for elite competitors? +

No — B-Team has fundamentals classes and accepts members of all levels. That said, the academy is heavily competition-oriented and a significant portion of the mat space is occupied by serious grapplers; if you're looking for a casual recreational gym, B-Team isn't the typical fit.
