About 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu
10th Planet was created by Eddie Bravo, who earned his black belt under Jean Jacques Machado after defeating Royler Gracie at the 2003 ADCC tournament. Bravo built 10th Planet around techniques he developed specifically for no-gi grappling and MMA — recognizing that classical gi-based BJJ didn't always translate when the cloth was gone.
The 10th Planet curriculum is built around a distinctive vocabulary: rubber guard, mission control, the lockdown, electric chair, the twister, and the truck. It's a position-based system designed to give practitioners specific ladder paths from position A to submission B.
10th Planet schools are decentralized and headed by individual instructors who train under or alongside Bravo. The network has grown to dozens of academies in the US and internationally, and its alumni include UFC fighters and EBI champions.
Style & Philosophy
No-gi only. Position-based system with named, sequenced techniques. Aggressive submission orientation, particularly chokes and leg locks. Heavy MMA crossover.

Is 10th Planet a legitimate BJJ system? +
Yes. 10th Planet was initially controversial because of its rejection of the gi and Bravo's separation from traditional BJJ politics, but its techniques have been validated repeatedly in no-gi competition (EBI, ADCC) and MMA (Tony Ferguson, the Diaz brothers' training, etc.). The system is now broadly accepted as a legitimate branch of modern BJJ.
