Atos Jiu-Jitsu: HQ, Lineage, and Notable Competitors
Founded 2007 by Ramon Lemos and Andre Galvao
About Atos Jiu-Jitsu
Atos was founded in Brazil in 2007 by Ramon Lemos, with Andre Galvao joining shortly after to lead the competition team. The academy quickly built a reputation for producing aggressive, fundamentals-strong competitors who excelled at the highest levels.
In 2012 Galvao moved the headquarters to San Diego, California, establishing Atos HQ as the team's primary training hub. Since then San Diego has been the destination for many top international BJJ competitors looking to train at the highest level of no-gi and gi competition.
Atos hosts the WNO (Who's Number One) competition series under FloGrappling and has produced an unprecedented run of black belt and world-level competitors — from Galvao himself to Kaynan Duarte, Tainan Dalpra, and Mica Galvao.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where is Atos Jiu-Jitsu HQ? +
Atos HQ is in San Diego, California. The address is 4225 Sorrento Valley Blvd. The HQ hosts open mats and pro-level training and is one of the most active high-level BJJ gyms in the US.
Who founded Atos? +
Atos was founded in 2007 by Ramon Lemos in Brazil. Andre Galvao joined shortly after to lead the competition team and is now widely regarded as the public face of the academy.
Is Atos better than Alliance? +
Both are perennially among the top teams at IBJJF Worlds. Atos has had longer dominant runs in the last decade, especially since the move to San Diego. Alliance has the longer total history of team championships. They're fierce rivals — most matches between them are very competitive.
Can anyone train at Atos HQ? +
Yes — Atos HQ runs open enrollment classes for all levels, not just competitors. Walk-in / drop-in fees are higher than the average San Diego gym (around $30-40), but visiting practitioners are welcome with the appropriate gear and waiver.
