What is Ulnar Nerve in BJJ?

Quick Definition

The nerve running along the inside of the elbow, vulnerable to armbars.

Full Explanation

The ulnar nerve runs along the inner side of the elbow, passing through the cubital tunnel. It is the "funny bone" nerve and can be irritated or compressed during armbars and other arm attacks. Chronic ulnar nerve issues can develop from repeated armbar attempts and defenses. Symptoms include tingling or numbness in the ring and pinky fingers. Protecting the elbows and tapping early to armbars helps prevent ulnar nerve damage.

Examples in Context

"My ulnar nerve was irritated from defending too many armbars"

"Tingling in your pinky can be a sign of ulnar nerve compression"
