What is Two-on-One in BJJ?
Also known as: Russian tie, 2-on-1
Quick Definition
Controlling one of the opponent's arms with both of your hands.
Full Explanation
The two-on-one (also called the Russian tie when standing) is a fundamental grip where you use both hands to control one of the opponent's arms. This gives you a numerical advantage on that limb, allowing you to pull, push, drag, or spin the opponent. From the two-on-one, you can set up arm drags, takedowns, guard pulls, and submissions. It is one of the most versatile controlling positions in both gi and no-gi grappling.
Examples in Context
