What is Spider Guard in BJJ?
Quick Definition
A gi guard using sleeve grips with feet on biceps to control distance.
Full Explanation
Spider guard is a gi-specific open guard where you grip both sleeves and place your feet on your opponent's biceps. By extending your legs, you control their posture and distance, making it difficult for them to pass. From here, you can sweep by pushing and pulling, or transition to triangles and omoplatas. It's effective but requires good grips - if they break your grips, they can pass quickly.
