What is Scissor Sweep in BJJ?
Quick Definition
A fundamental closed guard sweep using a scissoring leg motion.
Full Explanation
The scissor sweep is often the first sweep taught in BJJ. From closed guard, you get a cross grip on their collar, control their same-side sleeve, open your guard, and put one shin across their stomach while the other leg goes on the mat. You scissor your legs - pushing with the top leg while sweeping their knee with the bottom leg. It works by removing their base while off-balancing them to the side.
Examples in Context
