The rear naked choke (RNC or mata leĆ£o - "lion killer" in Portuguese) is the most effective submission in grappling. Applied from back control, one arm goes around the neck with the bicep and forearm on each side, while the other arm secures the choke behind the head. It cuts off blood flow to the brain in seconds. "Naked" means no gi is needed. It has the highest finish rate at elite levels.
