What is Radial Nerve in BJJ?

Quick Definition

A nerve in the arm that can be compressed during certain chokes and arm attacks.

Full Explanation

The radial nerve runs along the outer side of the upper arm and can be compressed during certain arm triangles, shoulder pressure, and arm locks. Radial nerve compression can cause temporary weakness or numbness in the hand and wrist, known as "Saturday night palsy" when prolonged. In BJJ, brief radial nerve compression is not uncommon during rolling and usually resolves quickly. Persistent symptoms should be evaluated by a medical professional.
