What is Meniscus in BJJ?
Quick Definition
The cartilage cushions in the knee, vulnerable to rotational leg attacks.
Full Explanation
The meniscus is a C-shaped piece of cartilage in the knee that acts as a shock absorber between the femur and tibia. There are two menisci in each knee (medial and lateral). Meniscus tears can occur from heel hooks and other rotational forces on the knee. Symptoms include pain, swelling, and locking of the knee. Treatment ranges from conservative management to surgical repair or removal. Meniscus injuries are common in grappling sports.
