What is MCL in BJJ?
Also known as: Medial collateral ligament
Quick Definition
The medial collateral ligament in the knee, vulnerable to certain leg attacks.
Full Explanation
The MCL (medial collateral ligament) is a ligament on the inner side of the knee that provides stability. It can be injured by heel hooks, knee bars, and situations where lateral force is applied to the knee. MCL injuries range from minor sprains to complete tears. Unlike ACL tears, MCL injuries can often heal without surgery. Proper defense of leg locks and tapping early helps protect the MCL.
