What is Frames in BJJ?
Also known as: Framing, Frame work
Quick Definition
Using your limbs as barriers to create and maintain space.
Full Explanation
Frames are when you use your bones (forearms, shins, legs) as rigid barriers against your opponent. Unlike pushing with muscles, frames use skeletal structure to maintain distance efficiently. Common frames include forearm across the neck (from bottom side control), knee shield (in half guard), and stiff-arming (from guard). Good framing is essential for defense and requires less energy than muscular resistance.
Examples in Context
"Frame against their neck before attempting to escape"
"His frames made it hard to apply pressure"
