What is Disqualification in BJJ?

Also known as: DQ

Quick Definition

Being removed from a match or tournament for serious rule violations.

Full Explanation

Disqualification (DQ) is the most severe penalty in competition. You can be DQ'd for illegal techniques (heel hooks at lower belts, slams, etc.), accumulating too many penalties, or unsportsmanlike conduct. Some DQs are immediate (like a slam), others come after multiple warnings. Being DQ'd means you lose the match and may be removed from the tournament entirely.

Examples in Context

"He was disqualified for a slam"
