The kettlebell clean is an explosive hip-driven movement that brings the kettlebell from the floor to the rack position at the shoulder. It builds total body power and coordination while being gentler on the wrists than barbell cleans. The explosive hip extension pattern transfers directly to grappling power.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. 1 Stand with feet shoulder-width apart with a kettlebell between your feet.
  2. 2 Hinge and grip the kettlebell with one hand.
  3. 3 Hike the bell between your legs to load the hips.
  4. 4 Explosively drive your hips forward to accelerate the bell.
  5. 5 As the bell rises, pull your elbow tight to your body.
  6. 6 Rotate your hand and catch the bell in the rack position at your shoulder.
  7. 7 To return, let the bell drop and catch it in a hinge position.
